Narukiyo in Shibuya

I rarely write reviews and when I do it has been because places have been especially good. This is not the case here. We came based on the positive reviews but after two drinks, two bland tasting fried prawns (accompanied by a couple of pieces of asparagus and a mushroom), and a 5300 yen bill I feel I have to set expectations for those that follow - the atmosphere is good, the food is average at best, and the prices are extortionate. Be aware and I recommend you avoid.

Really had a very good dinner this evening. We left the food to the chef and just tell him the food type that we want. The cost of the meal is reasonable given that we have sashimi platter that includes uni and chutoro tuna, Miyazaki beef, stewed pork and 2 different bottles of sake.

A must visit in Shibuya! You just tell the chef your budget and he will prepare a series of surprise dishes. As the dishes evolve over the evening, no two menus are the same. Hence, make sure to come back often! The place is popular, note that you need a reservation most nights. Extra points for the decoration!

One of the best food and chef experiences I had in a long time. Our local friend took us here and we could not have been happier with the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff. All the vegetable, steak, and fish dishes we had were incredible. The chef will customize based on your request which was super helpful as my girlfriend does not eat meat. The sake selection and its presentation was awesome as well.

Slightly pricey for the quality. We ordered the recommendation special and it was ~7,500 JPY per person. Very good sashimi with a sesame (or peanut?) sauce, and very good beef katsu.
